William V. McKnelly, M.D.

William V. McKnelly, M.D. is the current Director the Methadone Clinic for Opiate Addiction and the Lithium Clinic for Affective Disorders at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He is also a Staff Psychiatrist at the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Hospital. He received his M.D. from St. Louis University in 1955 and completed his Psychiatry Residency at Barnes Renard Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri in 1961. Dr. McKnelly was a Staff Psychiatrist at the United States Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1957 until 1959 and an Assistant in Psychiatry at Washington University Medical School from 1959 until 1961. He has been a member of the KU faculty since 1961 and became a full tenured Professor in 1982. His clinical and research interests include Affective Disorders and Opiate Addiction.
