Jan L. Campbell, M.D., Professor, has been a member of the KUMC faculty since 1982. Dr. Campbell has been a staff psychiatrist with the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center since 1982, and was the Acting Chief of Psychiatry there from 1988-1989. Also, Dr. Campbell was on staff at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Veterans Administration Medical Center in Leavenworth, Kansas since 1986 to 2007, and was the Chief of the Substance Abuse Treatment Unit there from 1986-1997. Dr. Campbell graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine in 1978. She served as an intern at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia from 1978-1979. She then completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa in 1982. Dr. Campbell was the recipient of the NIMH Research Service Award for Fellowship in Psychiatric Genetics while at the University of Iowa Hospitals. She was the Director of the Addiction Psychiatry Residency Program at the University of Missouri-Kansas School of Medicine from 1999-2002. She has numerous publications related to alcohol related illnesses and substance abuse and presented several lectures on postpartum disorders and substance abuse. Although she is no longer practicing at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Dr. Campbell is currently conducting a research project there and still holds a faculty appointment.
