What is myKUMC?
myKUMC is an institutional portal that provides authentication and authorization to web-based services for KUMC students, faculty, and staff. Its goal is to provide a framework for delivering online services based on users' roles on campus.

In January 2003 myKUMC was made available to students and contained information such as course schedules, grades, and announcements. In October 2003 myKUMC became available to staff and faculty, and contains pay stub information, benefits, KUMC news, and more. More services will be made available based on interest and priority. Approximately 5,000 people use myKUMC.

myKUMC is using a series of new technologies to our development staff. While we've done extensive testing, we are continuing to evaluate the hardware and software requirements. Please let us know about any errors or problems you experience with using the portal, as well as suggestions for additional services, by filling out our suggestion form. If you'd like to talk to someone directly, contact Jameson Watkins.

What's a portal?
A portal is a Web-based application that is intended to aggregate information and services in a secure, easy, consistent, and personalized way. You might be familiar with commercial portals such as Yahoo! and MSN. We are using an open-source product called uPortal, designed specifically for use by higher education. For more information, see 'uPortal: A Common Portal Reference Framework' article. For basic information on how to use it, see the Help section.

How Secure is myKUMC?
myKUMC uses your existing network userid/password that you use to access other networked resources such as email. The biggest security concern is therefore keeping your password secret and 'strong.' To find out more about securing your network account, see the Password Security Policy.

All traffic between the portal server and your web browser is encrypted. Click on the seal at the left to verify the security certificate for this server.

Please use the logout button in the top right hand corner when finished with your portal session. There is also a 20 minute delayed timeout that will occur after no activity is detected.

For general network security concerns, please contact Sherry Callahan. For questions related specifically to myKUMC, contact Jameson Watkins.
