Children’s Pediatric Fellowship
Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics (CMHC) Pediatric Medicine and Rehabilitation department offers a two-year ACGME accredited fellowship designed to develop advanced skills in the diagnosis and treatment of children with disabilities. Fellows will have completed an approved residency training program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and may have additionally completed a Pediatrics Residency or a joint Pediatrics/PM&R Residency. The clinical and didactic experiences are intended to expand their knowledge of pediatric conditions resulting in disability, including traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disease, neural tube defects, amputations and others in order to prepare them for a successful pediatric rehabilitation practice. The PM&R curriculum is divided into block rotations of three months each. Educational programs are held in conjunction with the University of Kansas Medical Center Core Rehabilitation Medicine Program.
CMHC is a regional, tertiary referral center. It is the only free-standing children’s hospital between St Louis to the east, Denver to the west, Omaha to the north and Little Rock to the south. CMHC is consistently recognized as one of the top children’s hospitals in the United States. The hospital has the generous support of an extraordinary community. With their help they have built a special hospital offering outstanding facilities that combine the latest in technology and patient care services with a beautiful family-friendly environment. Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Fellowship
The University of Kansas PM&R department is actively pursuing a joint
fellowship with anesthesiology and psychiatry in interventional spine and musculoskeletal
medicine. This will be an ACGME approved fellowship that will be associated with the new KU spine center (start date to be determined). Currently, we have
an interventional and pain physiatrist at both KU Medical Center and at the
Kansas City VA rotation. During the PM&R residency training there is the
opportunity for residents to learn and perform supervised fluoroscopically-guided
spinal injections.
