The Physiology Society was founded in the spring of 2002 and is open to membership to all Graduate Students who have formally joined the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology. First-year IGPBS students are also welcome to attend any of our meetings and events. The overall goal of the Physiology Society is to enhance the cultural, social and professional growth of Graduate Students in the Department. This is accomplished through various activities. First, graduate students take turns leading a bimonthly journal club/scientific discussion. The goal of these discussions is to
- provide a low-stress environment where students can practice leading scientific discussions
- keep up on the "hot topics" currently being debated in top scientific journals
- create an environment where students can feel free to share their scientific accomplishments (as well as difficulties).
The Physiology Society also meets for a bimonthly off-campus social or cultural event. Finally, the Physiology Society provides the Graduate Students of the Department a unified voice with which to address their interests and concerns to the faculty and chair of the Department.
We have also recently produced a Physiology Graduate Student Manual (PDF) that includes many helpful hint and suggestions for dealing with issues pertinent to your graduate career.
