B.S. in Biology, Park University, Parkville, MO

I am originally from Kansas City, MO. I graduated from Park University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology. I became interested in research during my ASPET summer internship at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2005. I started graduate school at KUMC in 2006 and I am currently pursuing a degree in Pharmacology in Dr. Bruno Hagenbuch’s lab.

Research interests

My research interests include organic anion transporting polypeptides (OATPs). Organic anion transporting polypeptides are liver specific transport proteins that are located at the basolateral membrane of hepatocytes. OATPs are responsible for the Na+ independent uptake of a large range of amphipathic organic compounds including bile acids, hormones, and their conjugates, several xenobiotics, as well as several anticancer drugs.

My project focuses on the role of OATPs in the transport of anticancer drugs. I am interested in determining which OATPs are expressed in different cancer tissues as well as which anticancer drugs are transported by these OATPs. This information could help improve chemotherapeutic treatment.
