Outside the lab, my interests are varied.  I grew up on the east coast, so I have a love for Broadway Theater and try to get to at least one production per year.  My favorite production of all time would have to be Phantom of the Opera, though Wicked comes in a close second.  I’m also a fan of live music, trying to make as many concerts and live shows as I can a year.  My favorite bands are Snow Patrol, Death Cab for Cutie, and John Mayer.  I also have a great passion for reading and try to rotate between popular fiction and the classic literature works, like my favorite novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.  If I had not chosen a career in the sciences, I think I would have probably taught high school English or Literature.  If I have the time, I like to also like to cook and have taken several cooking courses.  If it involves pasta or Italian food, I am a fan!

Research Interests
My research to date involves the use of probe drugs to safely measure drug disposition, especially in vivo.  After observation of a unique drug-drug interaction involving a probe drug cocktail that decreases the bioavailability of fexofenadine (AllegraTM) by greater than 50% in humans, the role of transporters is being researched to elucidate their contribution to fexofenadine pharmacokinetics.  The potential involvement of multiple transporters contributing to fexofenadine uptake and efflux makes the system more complex, however it will also provide more insight into transporter function, modulation, and the disposition of drugs.  Definition of the dominant fexofenadine transporter(s) and their relative contributions will illustrate how human transporters function and the potential for this function to be modulated.  This would provide the first fully validated probe drug for measuring transporter activity and drug-drug interactions in human subjects.
