Nurse Clinician, Deep Brain Stimulation Programmer

Stephanie attended Villa Maria College in Erie, Pa receiving a B.S. in Nursing. She spent approximately 4 years in the Air Force. She returned to nursing when Parkinson’s Disease was diagnosed in a family member. She joined the Movement Disorder center in April 2000 as a Programming Nurse Clinician for movement disorder patients that receive deep brain stimulation surgery.

Tamara Gales, LPN
Clinical and Research Nurse

Tamara graduated from an outreach program through Colby Communtiy College with her Nursing Certificate in 1997. She joined University of Kansas Medical Center December 1999, in which she became a clinical nurse in the Department of Neurology. Tamara joined the Parkinson’ss Disease Research Center November 2003, where she assists Dr. Rajesh Pahwa with clinic and coordinates research studies.

Janet Kirk, B.S.N.
Nurse Clinician, Deep Brain Stimulation Programmer

Janet attended Graceland College and graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. She has worked at KUMC since 1987 with the majority of her expierence in the Medical Intensive Care Unit. Her last position was in Same Day Surgery, working with cardiac surgeons. In November of 2003 she took a positon working in the Movement Disorders Center as a Nurse Clinician, programming deep brain stimulators for movement disorder surgery patients.

Study Coordinator

April joined the Department of Neurology in July 2003. She started as a medical secretary for the Movement Disorder program. Since October 2005, she has been working as a research study coordinator. She graduated in May 2003 from Truman State University with a Bachelor's degree in Biology.

Clinical and Research Nurse

Carey received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Cincinnati in June of 1995. In July of 2006, she joined our staff as a clinical and research nurse.

Loretta Jenkins
Center Coordinator

Loretta has been involved in research for over 25 years beginning with Phase I studies in 1979. She joined the neurology department in 1993 as a research assistant in Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease Pharmaceutical studies. She currently is the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center Coordinator. She’s involved with the completion of regulatory documents between the center and the University’s Research Institute, data collection and assists in the daily operation of the center.

Study Coordinator

Matthew joined the Parkinsons diease and Movement Disorders Center in August of 2007 as a study coordinator. He has received two BGS degrees, both from the University of Kansas. The first was in 2005 in Human Biology and the second was in 2007 in Psychology.

Lana Jenne
Secretary

Lana transferred to the Parkinson disease and Movement Disorders Center in August of 2007. She has been working at the Medical Center since 1997.
