Parking Services Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why isn't parking free for patients, employees and students?

Parking is a business expense. Organizations (hospitals, universities, retail stores) must pay on budget fiscal resources to support their parking operations. If not paid directly by the customer user fees (ie. employees, patients) costs are passed on indirectly through higher prices for other services. The hospital is currently reviewing options for funding of patient parking.

The Department of Parking Services is self-supporting. It operates through the use of revenue generated from the sales of permits and garage parking fees from employees, students, as well as, garage parking fees from outpatients and visitors.

  2. Can employees park in the parking garages?

The two parking garages are reserved for patients and visitors. Unauthorized employees are not allowed to park in these locations. Employees and students parking on campus during business hours must park in their designated parking lots.

  3. What is the price for permit or garage parking?

The costs for parking vary. Rates are based on the proximity to the main complex, higher rates for closer spaces, less for more distant ones. For more information on parking fees, see Section 7.0 of the University Parking Policies and Procedures.
