Since June 2007, the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Kansas is located at 7400 State Line Road in Prairie Village, Kansas. This larger facility is about four miles south of the main campus and was selected to provide better patient access for the growing parts of Johnson County. For the convenience of our patients, this building has a covered drop-off entrance and ample close-by parking.
The updated new facility is 17,000 sq ft with 25 examining lanes and sufficient academic spaces to support our eight residents, 11 full-time permanent faculty, as well as our current staff. Here, we provide comprehensive outpatient care across the spectrum of ophthalmology including:
- Low Vision
- Contact Lenses
- Confocal microscopy
- Corneal Topography
- Fluorescein angiography
- OCT
- Complete Video and Photography Services
- ERG (electroretinographic)
- AMD (age-related macular degeneration)
Surgeries are performed at either the University of Kansas Hospital in the Same-Day Unit or at the KU Med West Ambulatory Surgery Center. Refractive surgery procedures are done in the Durrie Vision offices on College Boulevard in Overland Park.
This space is being leased with the specific goal of creating a new eye center closer to the main campus for the University of Kansas Medical Center within the next 10 years.
