Erica Person, MD, was awarded two grants from Kansas Lions Sight Foundation:

2009: Effect of Heat Shock Protein Inhibitors on Uveal Melanoma and

2010: Treatment of Uveal Melanoma by Withaferin-A in vitro and in vivo. (Click here for related article.)

The Kansas Lions Sight Foundation also provided R.C. Andrew Symons, MD, PhD, start-up funding when he joined the Department in 2008.

Above, Dr. Symons receives a grant rom the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Inc., in 2009, to use toward his work studying Genetic Control of Vaso-obliteration in Mouse Oxygen Induced Retinopathy.

Additionally, in 2009, Dr. Symons was awarded a Lied Endowed Basic Science Pilot Research Grant (intramural research grant, with external peer review) for Investigations into the genetics of diabetic retinopathy and a Kansas University Medical Center General Clinical Research Center CReFF pilot grant, for Genetics of Susceptibility to Diabetic Retinopathy.

In June 2010, the Fraternal Order of Eagles awarded Dr. Symons a grant to further his study Is the body able to repair diabetic blood vessel damage in the eye?
