New Animal User Training

Every individual that is beginning work with animals on the KUMC campus must attend New Animal User Training. The new animal user should complete first page of the New Animal User Training Form.  The Principal Investigator should review that information, list (in the table) all procedures that the new employee will be performing, then sign and date it. PI should review (with the new animal user), the ACUP(s) and all addenda, and should supply one copy for his/her training records.

The new animal user should then sign up for the New Animal User Training of his/her choice here.

After the first page of the training request form has been completed and signed, please send a copy to Larissa Dobbeleare LAR Training Coordinator, She will evaluate your training needs and respond back to you with further instructions regarding New Animal User Training.

New Animal User Training consists of and in-person training with four lectures, a facility tour and a basic hands-on training with mice and/or rats. There will also be online assignments assigned to you the Friday before the in-person training session of your choice. An Animal Worker Evaluation will also be sent to you from our on-site industrial hygienist and will be completed on an annual basis.

Note about the training form: Our animal user training program is evolving based on the feedback provided by KUMC research community. Therefore, the New Animal User Training Form/Checklist gets occasionally updated. Please do not save the form in your files, but rather use the most updated version that is posted on this website.
