Tom G. Sullivan, MD, FACOG
Although born in Kansas City, Missouri, I am pretty much a Kansan having
been raised and educated in the State. I graduated from high school
in Wichita, received my undergraduate degree at the University of Kansas
and medical degree from University of Kansas School of Medicine. I
spent one year as an intern at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma
in affiliation with the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. I
then served as a flight surgeon with the United States Air Force at Randolph
Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, returning to KUMC in 1975 to begin
my ob/gyn residency training. I remained on the KUMC Faculty for one year
after completing my residency, then entered private practice with Kansas
City Women’s Clinic and remained with that group for 23 years until
Dr. John Calkins convinced me to return to academic medicine on July 1,
2002.
I am board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. I
am a member of many medical societies including: locally the
Kansas City Gynecological Society of which I am a past President, was a
Founding Member of the Kermit E. Krantz Society, am a Life Member of the
Kansas University Alumni Association, and a member of the Johnson/Wyandotte
County Medical Society and Kansas Medical Society; nationally the
American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Central Association
of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society of Cervical Cytology
and Pathology and am currently serving as the Section Chair of the Kansas
Section in District VII of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
I am what is referred to in our specialty as a generalist and enjoy the
active practice of both obstetrics and gynecology. I have particular
interest in gynecologic surgery including laparoscopy and hysteroscopy,
colposcopy and the evaluation of the abnormal Pap smear and the management
of the menopausal patient including hormone therapy.
I have enjoyed my return to academic medicine and the challenges of teaching
medical students and residents, but still most enjoy seeing and taking care
of patients.
