Conferences and Instruction

The bulk of the conferences are scheduled for Friday afternoon. Designated didactic time for residents and faculty. During this time care is taken so as to not have scheduled surgeries or clinics of any kind in the department.

Conferences include:

Monthly Grand Rounds:
Guest lecturers from around the world and closer to home are invited to provide insight in their areas of interest

Friday Monitor Rounds:
A weekly session with the Chair stressing fetal heart rate interpretation and the prediction of normal and pathophysiology.

Weekly Obstetrical Didactics:
A case is chosen by the maternal-fetal medicine staff and presented in the conference. The education topics identified are then further discussed in an informal format with the discussion led by the maternal-fetal medicine faculty.

Monthly Journal Club:
Emphasis for this session is placed on reading of a scientific paper. Dr. Wieneke guides this session. Papers are selected and assigned in advance. A constructive discussion includes study design and relevant statistical processes.

Weekly Gynecological Didactics:
Purpose of this session is to examine current trends in gynecology and cover the gynecological topics from the CREOG handbook. Topics are generally chosen from recent cases in benign gynecology. The discussion is followed by a quiz to assess the retention by the attendees. The session is moderated by the gynecology faculty member of the week.

Informal Gynecological Conference:
Review of previous weeks gynecological cases, which are selected by the gynecology residents for educational comment.

Surgical Curriculum:
Monthly didactic presented by various faculty members covering a range of topics from the basics to complex issues arising in our surgical fields. The curriculum is presented in a two year cycle.

Specialty Hour:
Each month we have an hour dedicated for gynecological oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, or urogynecology. The topics are chosen by the specialists in the field and are presented in a clinical care presentation or a lecture journal.
