Clifford has been helping new nursing students at the University of Kansas for more than 40 years. She has overseen the recruitment and admission of thousands of nursing students who have gone on to make health care better for everyone.
"I am very fortunate to have spent my careerworking at the University of Kansas School of Nursing," Clifford said. "During that time I have had wonderful colleagues, staff and, most of all, students with whom to work. It has been, and still is, a very rewarding experience."
The award was presented March 18 to Clifford and 20 other honorees at the 5th annual Heroes in Healthcare awards celebration at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. The award winners came from the Kansas City metropolitan area, St. Joseph, Lawrence and Topeka. The keynote speaker was Bill Bruning, president and CEO of Mid-America Coalition on Health Care.
