Tim Porter-O'Grady, DM, EdD, APRN, FAAN
O'Grady has spent the last 40 years working in health care, rising from staff nurse to successful international consultant and celebrated author. The founder and senior partner of his own Atlanta-based international consulting agency, O'Grady holds three professorships, in addition to his work as an author and certified arbitrator for the Georgia Supreme Court's Office of Dispute Resolution.

His Healthcare 2010 program seeks to present new skills and processes in healthcare that will shape the construction of the industry's future.

“It is very important to begin to consider how significant changes will impact nursing and what responses we need to be prepared to make,” said Mary Gambino, RN, PhD, assistant dean for community affairs and KU Continuing Nursing Education director. “This program will foster the thinking that is needed as we move forward into the next decade. Imagining an accurate vision of our future is the major task of leadership in health care today.”

The Healthcare 2010 program is presented by KU HealthPartners, Inc., and KU School of Nursing. It is co-sponsored by Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics, North Kansas City Hospital, St. Joseph Medical Center, St. Mary's Medical Center, St. Luke's Hospital and The University of Kansas Hospital.

“We're fortunate to have a legend in healthcare like Dr. Tim Porter-O'Grady as a leader in this program,” Gambino said. “His ideas will really resonate with healthcare leaders, and his experience and personality make this a great opportunity to learn more about how our current practices will mesh with the innovation we will see in the future.”

O'Grady has traveled the globe consulting and lecturing at more than 1,000 international settings. He has written more than 165 refereed journal articles and 17 books and is the six-time winner of the AJN Healthcare Book of the Year award. His most recent books in 2009 include Interdisciplinary Shared Governance: Integrating Practice, Transforming Health Care (2nd ed.) and The Quantum Leader: Applications for the New World of Work with co-author Kathy Malloch.

He is currently the senior partner at Tim Porter-O'Grady Associates, a health care consulting firm specializing in health futures, organizational innovation, conflict and change, as well as health service delivery models. He is also associate professor and leadership scholar at Arizona State University, Program in Healthcare Innovation; 2007 visiting scholar at University of Maryland; and is an adjunct professor at Lakehead University, School of Public Health, Ontario.
