Nicole Morrow, RN, University of Kansas School of Nursing graduate student, is getting a head start on her career in public health nursing by helping the Kansas City Urban Youth Center receive a $98,000 grant. Morrow is the Center's full-time health care coordinator and works with vulnerable and at-risk youth, focusing on nutrition and physical education.
The grant funds will allow the center to serve healthy snacks and dinners to children in grades four through twelve. Morrow also will educate the Center's youth on the food pyramid, making health food choices and in the spring will teach them how to plant a garden.
Upon completing her last semester of coursework, Morrow said she is looking forward to receiving her master's degree in public health nursing and continuing her work at the Kansas City Urban Youth Center.
"I really kind of feel like I found my niche," Morrow said.
