Meyer named new CFO for the School of Medicine

Apr 24, 2008

The University of Kansas School of Medicine has named Kimberly Anne Meyer its senior associate dean for finance.

The Medical Center filled the position following Jim Albertson's departure to become the chief executive officer of Kansas University Physicians, Inc. (KUPI).

Most recently, Meyer was the director of planning, expertise, at H&R Block, Inc., where she helped design and launch a start-up tax and financial services company with 21 offices. She also previously served as an associate professor of mathematics at Chicago State University. Meyer received her doctorate in mathematics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. There, she developed and implemented an innovative approach to teaching pre-calculus.

“This position combines all of the things I sought in a career – an opportunity to utilize my love of science and math while working in an academic environment,” said Meyer. “And after reading the Medical Center's 10-year research strategy document – amid Kansas City's strong life sciences research efforts – I knew that KU Medical Center is where I wanted to be.”

One of her first goals is to reinforce the best of business' financial practices in developing the School of Medicine's financial strategy.

“Over the next few months, Kimberly will drive the implementation of a comprehensive financial strategy to better support our three missions of education, research and clinical care,” said Shelley Gebar, senior associate dean for operations and administration for KU School of Medicine.

Meyer began her new position on April 1.
