Donna Nyght, MS, CRNA, has been appointed chair of the Department of Nurse Anesthesia at the University of Kansas School of Allied Health.

Nyght has served as interim chair since July 1, 2007, when Carol Elliott, chair of the department, stepped down to begin phased retirement. Nyght received her BSN and her MS degree in nurse anesthesia from the University of Kansas. She has more than 25 years of experience as a nurse and 14 years as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Prior to coming to the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2004, she was with Northland Anesthesiology, Inc., and prior to that was chief CRNA at Menorah Medical Center.

"Donna has served the department very well, leading to the full support of the faculty and staff for her new appointment," said Karen L. Miller, RN, PhD, FAAN, senior vice chancellor and dean of the KU School of Allied Health. "Donna will lead the department of nurse anesthesia to new heights in teaching, research and service."
