New Alertus units to be tested through June 2

Apr 25, 2008

In order to increase campus safety, yellow Alertus units have been installed on walls around campus, and are being tested.

The units are a way for the KU Medical Center police department to communicate with those on campus in real time during an emergency. These emergencies include:

  • Severe weather that causes the need for immediate action
  • Situations that affect public safety
  • Hazardous spill or environmental danger

Testing of the units will take place intermittently through June 2. During testing, you may hear an alarm, see text on the unit's display board and see the unit light up with a red flashing light.

Please note that over the next month, the alarms sounding will only be for testing purposes. Once the testing is complete and all units are installed, you will be notified that the system is online and active, and we will provide more detailed information regarding what to do if the alarm sounds.

The Alertus devices are just one component of our overall effort to ensure that everyone on our campus is safe.
