At Cross-Lines Community Outreach, Inc. of Wyandotte County, students and faculty in the KU department of Dietetics and Nutrition are working to combat a serious, community-wide problem: food insecurity. Currently more than a quarter of the children in Wyandotte County don't have access to proper food or nutrition. In a proactive effort, students and faculty from the University of Kansas Medical Center have started a nutrition education program called Food for Your Family. Over the course of eight weeks, program participants learn about the negative effects of unhealthy foods, as well as cooking skills and healthy eating habits.
