I received my B.A. in psychology from Bethel College in May of 2008.  My past research experience includes work at Mount Sinai Medical School New York, NY and Bethel College North Newton, KS.  At Mount Sinai I studied HIV infection in Dr. Mary Klotman and Dr. Viviana Simon's labs.   In Dr. Klotman's lab I studied the importance of cervical epithelial and endothelial cells in the HIV infection of CD4+ T cells.  In Dr. Simon's lab I studied the relationship between defects in the APOBEC3 family of DNA editing enzymes, some of which have been shown to have anti-HIV activity, and the progression of HIV infection.  At Bethel College I worked in Dr. Paul Lewis' lab studying the importance of perspective in how medical professionals and patients understand and think about issues related to medication adherence.   

When I entered this Program in the summer 2008, I did a lab rotation in Dr. Shilpa Buch's lab in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology and am now considering other labs for the summer 2009.
