Only members of the Graduate Faculty may teach courses for graduate credit, supervise master's programs and theses, or serve on doctoral committees. Recommendations for graduate faculty status are submitted by graduate degree granting departments to the Office of Graduate Studies for Dean of Graduate Studies approval. Graduate Faculty are appointed with either Dissertation, Regular or Special status. Each of these appointment categories is defined in detail in the Academic Catalog.
Submission of a recommendation for appointment to the Graduate Faculty is made by the academic program's Graduate Director (or designee) via the Graduate Faculty SharePoint site. The Graduate Director (or designee) uses the Graduate Faculty Appointment Form in SharePoint to submit recommendations to the Office of Graduate Studies. Only the Graduate Director (or designee) has access to use this site.
The Faculty Affiliate Form is required by HR in order to create an entry for a non-employee in the HR system. Graduate Faculty appointment information is entered in the University's HR system so this form must be submitted by the department for initial appointment of a non-employee to facilitate the creation of an HR record.
