Our massage therapists can also come to your office or work area and
perform chair massages. Treat your staff to a short but relaxing chair

Racquetball/Squash Court(s)
Reservation Procedure:
- Court reservations are accepted only on the day prior to the date
the court is desired, unless an hour time block(s) has not been reserved.
Then, the reservation can be made on the day of. Courts can be reserved
in person or by calling the Courtesy Desk at the Fitness Center at 588-1KFC(1532),
during regular hours of operation.
Time Limitation:
- Both courts are limited to one hour of playing time per person per
day starting on the hour, unless a court has not been officially reserved
for a specific hourly time block.
- Court #1 will be reserved on the hour, while Court #2 will be reserved
on the ½ hr.
To claim a court:
- When claiming a court, all players scheduled for the court must check-in
at the Courtesy Desk.
- Each player will be asked to present a valid KUMC photo ID, or another
photo ID if not an employee of KUMC.
Failure to check in at the Courtesy Desk may lead to forfeiture of reserved
court time.
- If one of the players that has reserved a court does not claim their
court within 10 minutes of their reserved time, their reservation will
be forfeited, and the court will become available on a first-come, first-served
basis.
- When claiming a court in use, players should wait until the rally
has ended before knocking on the door or entering the court.
- The official clock for settling time discrepancies will be the clock
located in the viewing area of the courts.
Equipment:
- For safety, protective eyewear MUST be worn at all times during play.
Protective eyewear can be checked out at the Courtesy Desk at no charge
with a valid membership photo ID.
- Shoes or balls that mark the court surface will not be permitted.
- Shoestrings must remain tied at all times, and no one will be allowed
to use the court in bare feet or stockings.
- For safety, all racquets must have a wrist lanyard that must be worn
by players at all times.
- Metal racquets must be equipped with a protective head guard to avoid
damaging the walls.
- Handballs may not be used with a racquet under any circumstances,
and racquetball or squash racquets must be used with a racquetball or
squash ball respectively.
- A limited number of racquetball and squash racquets and balls will
be available at the courtesy desk for check out at no charge with a
valid photo ID. However, players are encouraged to invest in their own
equipment to avoid being inconvenienced due to unavailability of equipment.
- The moveable wall to convert the court from racquetball to squash,
or vice-versa, must be moved with care and caution. If you are not sure
how to safely move the wall, please ask for staff assistance at the
Courtesy Desk.
Other Information:
- Good sportsmanship is expected at all times. Any player that displays
unsportsmanlike conduct will be removed from the court, and possibly
from the entire Fitness Center. Repeated acts of unsportsmanlike conduct
will result in forfeiture of playing privileges indefinitely.
- A Goody Box is available on each court for small storage
purposes. It is highly recommended NOT to use the Goody Box
for storage of valuables.
- Do not spit on the court. Violators will be reprimanded accordingly.
- Never look back to see where a ball is hit, as this can lead to serious
injury.
- Drink containers are not allowed in courts.
- Shirts must be worn on the court at all times.
- Courts may be used to practice tennis strokes. However, only one person
is allowed in the court if it is used for this purpose. Racquetball
and squash reservations take priority over tennis use.
- Courts may be used to conduct intramural wallyball leagues. Organized
intramural wallyball leagues have precedence over general court use
during designated hours of the day.
- Kirmayer Fitness Center general facility use policies are in effect
at all times in all areas of the Center. Please consult the Members
Guide, or a Kirmayer staff employee, for clarification on any facility
use policy.

Tranquility Training Room
Rules and Regulations
- Only one person is permitted in the TTR at all times.
- The TTR is completely equipped to promote maximum relaxation. Persons
are not permitted to bring candles, incense, or other flammables of
their own to burn in the TTR.
- Loose fitting, comfortable clothing is recommended for use in the
TTR. Persons using the room must remain clothed at all times.
- Food is not permitted in the TTR. Non-alcoholic drinks are permitted.
However, drinks must be in a plastic container with a lid.
- The TTR must be reserved for use. It can only be reserved the day
before, or on the day of desired use, if openings are available. Reservations
can be made by calling the Courtesy Desk at 588-1KFC (1532) during regular
operational hours of the Fitness Center.
- The room can be reserved for no more than 25 minutes per member per
day. Reservation will be accepted for on the hour and half hour.
- There is no cost to use the TTR, including the massage chair that
is furnished in the room. If unsure how to use the chair, please ask
for staff assistance.
- The sound equipment and accessories are available in the room for
use at no cost. However, all users are strongly recommended to ask for
staff assistance if they are unsure how to operate any equipment.
- Members that have the TTR reserved must check in at the Courtesy Desk,
and must present their ID to the attendant for check out of the room
key to gain entrance into the TTR. The key must be returned immediately
upon expiration of the allocated time limit.
- Members are not permitted to move the massage chair, plants, lights,
screens or any other articles placed in the room. Reading materials,
tapes, etc. should be returned to their proper storage compartment upon
expiration of the relaxation session.
- Members that violate any rule or regulation established for use of
the TTR will be reprimanded accordingly. Reprimand could include possible
revocation of future TTR privileges or loss of Fitness Center membership
privileges.
- Kirmayer Fitness Center general facility use policies are in effect
at all times in all areas of the Center. Please consult the Members
Guide, or a Kirmayer staff employee, for clarification on any facility
use policy.

The following pieces of equipment may be checked out from the Courtesy
Desk at no charge with your membership card:
Basketballs, Jump Ropes, Swim Goggles, Dip Belts, Pulse Monitors, Lap
Counters, Volleyballs, Weight Belts, Ping-Pong Paddles, Heavy Bag Gloves.
Members may rent large 24" x 48" towels from the Courtesy Desk for a 50 cents. Towel cards, good for twenty towels may also be purchased in the Administrative Office for $10.00.
The Kirmayer Fitness Center has a limited number of keyed compartments
available for securing valuables at the Courtesy Desk. Also, members have
the option of utilizing a limited number of keyed lockers in each locker
room in the event they do not have a personal lock. Keys to the lockers
may be checked out at the Courtesy Desk with membership photo ID.
Renting a locker for several month: 1. Complete a locker rental form at Kirmayer. 2. Pick out the locker that you want. All available lockers are identified by a yellow sticky note. 3. Pull the sticky note off and write the locker number on it. 4. Take the form, locker number and payment to the Courtesy Desk. 5. Once your payment is processed, you will be given a slip of paper with your combination and instructions on how to open your locker. There will be no information on that slip identifying the locker number or your name. Even so, please keep this paper (and your combination) to yourself.

S.H.A.P.E. (Specialized Health and Personal Enhancement)
Get personal attention from our on-staff Exercise Physiologist, Jan Schmidt.
She can help you put together a personalized exercise program that is
geared specifically to your needs and goals. Below are the different options
within the SHAPE program. Choose the level of assistance that is best
for you.
New Member Orientation or PEP
Set up a time to get some advice from an expert. A certified and degreed exercise specialist and personal trainer or exercise physiologist will meet with you to discuss establishing a plan. Appointments
take 30 minutes and should be scheduled in advance by calling Jeff Sygman at
588-7702 or via e-mail.

Nutrition Counseling
Meet with a Registered Dietitian to address your specific nutritional
needs. Topics such as weight loss or gain, weight maintenance, general
nutrition and special diets are within the scope of counseling. The dietitian
will share knowledge on choosing nutritionally balanced meals and snacks,
menu planning, portion control, reading food labels and how to make informed

Personal Training/Aqua
Instruction - Special Packages
Exercising with a personal trainer is a great way to fine tune your workout
and maintain motivation. Our personal trainers are highly qualified, possessing
certifications and/or degrees in a health related field. Your trainer
will assist you throughout your entire workout each time you have an appointment,
and can meet a wide range of needs from the beginning exerciser to the
competitive athlete. Here's how to get started:
- Contact Jeff Sygman at 588-7702 or at jsygman@kumc.edu.
- Complete a personal training packet consisting of a health history
form, lifestyle profile, and fitness goals.
- Make your personal training appointment. There are no minimum or maximum
number to times you can work with a trainer.

An exercise physiologist will evaluate your current fitness level and
work with you to develop a personal exercise plan (P.E.P.). Components
of the assessment include:
