Hotel Information
Where is the 2013 Symposium being held?
The 2013 K-INBRE Symposium will be held at the Manhattan Hilton Garden Inn and Conference Center located just off I-70 on the corner of South 3rd and Colorado Street in Manhattan, KS.
Hotel rooms will be at the Hilton Garden Inn and the Fairfield Inn. If you registered for a room please make sure you note on your hotel confirmation email which hotel you have been assigned to.

Where do I park?
Complimentary parking is available in the covered parking garage attached to the conference center located at the corner of 3rd and Ft. Riley Blvd. Additional parking is located in the lot off the back entrance of the hotel at 4th and Colorado St. A map can be seen here.
What time is the hotel check-in/check-out?
Check in time: After 3:00 pm on Friday, January 18th, 2013
Check out time: Before 12:00 pm on Sunday, January 20, 2013
Will I have internet access in the hotel?
Yes, our group will have complementary internet in all guest rooms and in the meeting space.
Hotel Cost?
There is no hotel room charge for registered K-INBRE participants and invited guests. K-INBRE participants are graduate or undergraduate students and Star Trainees who have worked on K-INBRE funded projects, and all K-INBRE funded investigators, mentors and postdocs both past and present.
Note: The hotel will require a $50 deposit for your incidentals at check in. For this refundable deposit, you must supply a credit/debit card or cash. If a debit card is used, a $50 hold will be placed on the card for 5-7 days.
Abstract/Poster Information
Abstract Submission
Once registered you will receive a conformation email with abstract submission guidelines. You must reply to that confirmation email with your abstract by November 30, 2012. If you would like your confirmation email resent, please contact either Jan Lyon or Heiata Chapman.
Who is eligible for a poster award?
Postdocs, undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to compete for a poster award. If competing for a poster award, your poster must be displayed in Big Basin by 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2013 and you must participate in the 2 minute presentation to the judges.
Where do I set up my poster?
The poster boards are located in Big Basin. Each board will be numbered, corresponding to an abstract number in the symposium program. Programs will be distributed when you stop by the check-in table. Please visit the Maps page to

When do I set up my poster?
Beat the Rush! Friday, January 18th from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm you are welcome to put your poster up in Big Basin (during early check-in) or after 7:30 am on Saturday, January 19, 2013.
When do I take down my poster?
Posters must be taken down before noon on Sunday, January 20, 2013. Removal of your poster is your responsibility. Posters left up after 12:00 p.m. on Sunday will be discarded.
What is the size of the poster board we will be using?
4’ H x 8’W.

Will I need to bring my own push pins?
There will be approximately 15 push pins attached to each board for your use. At the end of the meeting, please leave your push pins in the poster board.
What is expected of me during the poster sessions if I am presenting a poster?
On Saturday, January 19, the poster session is divided into Poster session A, 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm for all odd numbered abstracts and Poster session B, 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm for all even numbered abstracts. K-INBRE Representatives and industry judges selected by KansasBio will visit your board during the poster session. Please prepare a 2-minute summary of your research project/poster, and include the potential for future applications/commercialization. Please be available at your poster during your assigned poster session to discuss your poster with the judges, as the judges will advance through the posters very quickly. You may choose to opt out of presenting the two minute summary to the judges, but you will not be eligible for a poster award. You are encouraged to visit your colleagues’ posters during the alternate session.
Check-In/Events
When is check-in?
Beat the rush! On Friday, January 18, from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm you may stop by the check-in table located in the Prefunction area of the Conference Center. Pizza and salad will be provided in the Big Basin room during this time. Otherwise, you may check-in after 7:30 am on Saturday, January 19, 2013.
Is there a registration fee?
No, though you must register by November 30, 2012.
If you registered a guest the cost is $60 which includes all meals. Please send a check made out to the “KUMC Research Institute, Inc.” and either drop off at the check-in desk or mail to the following address:

Speed Networking
From 7:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 18th in the pre-function area we are offering an opportunity to meet students and faculty from the K-INBRE Universities. Like speed-dating, you will have 2 minutes to share something about yourself, (name, university, hometown, research program, whatever else you can think of) with the person across from you before the moderator calls time and signals half of the group to change seats. We will also have a photo booth to take pics with your friends from 6:00 to 8:00.
Flint Hills Discovery Center
The K-INBRE will provide “free” admission for all registered attendees to visit the new Flint Hills Discovery Center. The front desk will have a listing of all attendees so you will need to check-in to be admitted. Please note: Only one visit per attendee. If you would like to bring a guest or visit more than once the rates are as follows:
- Adults (ages 18-64) $9.00
- Students, Seniors(65+), Military $7.00
- Children (2-17) $4.00
- Under 2 Free
We encourage you to take advantage of this exciting new educational venue in Kansas. Hours that you may attend are as follows:
- Friday January 18, 2013: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Saturday January 19, 2013: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Sunday January 20, 2013: Noon – 5 p.m.
