Bioinformatics Core

The overall goal of the Bioinformatics Core is to facilitate cutting edge research in cell and developmental biology that requires creation of or sophisticated analysis of very large datasets. This will be accomplished through highly coordinated activities of the four Bioinformatic Cores at the Scientific Partner institutions. These activities will include bioinformatic support for K-INBRE research programs using conventional genomics, high-throughput cDNA microarray expression analysis, and mass spectral data from proteomics and lipidomics. In addition, the K-INBRE supports educational programs in Bioinformatics at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels, and provides computational resources necessary to accomplish the stated goals. Together, these programs help to build a strong bioinformatics infrastructure that substantially enhances the research environment within the State of Kansas.

The Bioinformatics Core operates through a central core on the Kansas City campus, satellite cores on the Lawrence, Manhattan and Wichita campuses and a network to all other K-INBRE campuses. The Bioinformatics Core serves the needs of K-INBRE investigators and their trainees for data mining and interpretation as well as training in investigational uses of Bioinformatics.
