Bioinformatics Core
The overall goal of the Bioinformatics Core is to foster cutting edge research in cell and developmental biology by addressing K-INBRE network requirements for computational resources, methods, and expertise to solve complex problems in data management and knowledge discovery. Our strategy for achieving this goal has been to assemble a team spanning a diverse collection of technical expertise committed to:
- evaluating, acquiring (or developing), and maintaining computational resources (hardware and software) that directly complement the K-INBRE network research goals;
- developing and delivering training material, including workshops and contributions to credit courses, that facilitate practical application of these resources by K-INBRE students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty;
- cultivating resource usage by informing students and researchers across the network of our services and offering consultation to researchers in application of bioinformatics resources to their research;
- collaborating directly with K-INBRE researchers to formulate and apply complex methods to biomedical research goals;
- developing new research opportunities that marry informatics with wet lab activities; and
- facilitating information pipelines that foster collaboration, multidisciplinary science, and clinical translation.
As the K-INBRE Bioinformatics Core has evolved, specializations have emerged that include emphasis on genomics at KUMC, proteomics at KU-L, and lipidomics at KSU. Choices of strategies for development have taken advantage of these unique dispositions of research strengths across the state.
