Capabilities and Processes for ITV Use at KUMC

KUMC campus has a number of different ways to facilitate ITV or Video Teleconferencing. Each has it’s own capabilities and limitations.
Instructional Services
| Instructional Services (IS) has four CODECs, the end device that allows ITV. All four are ISDN (digital telephone line) capable, and three of them are IP (Internet Video) capable. These can selectively be connected to any of 14 ITV ready classrooms, conference rooms, and auditoriums that IS manages (click for list of rooms). The availability, capability, and scheduling of the rooms is accomplished through the IS Scheduling at 588-7326. |
Telemedicine and Information Technology (IT) Departments
| Telemedicine 588-2226, and various IT groups such as KUMC IT at (913) 588-4970, School of Nursing IT at (913) 588-1629, and School of Medicine IT at (913) 588-7026 have at least 24 known teleconferencing devices ranging from personal desktop units to roll around and conference room CODECs. These are managed and scheduled by their respective departments. |
Departmental Facilities

The Center on Aging has two ISDN and IP capable CODECS which can be selectively connected to two small conference rooms or a large classroom. This system is managed and scheduled by the Center on Aging at (913) 588-1218.
The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor has 2 conference room units (Varnes Board Room & University Room) that are ISDN and IP. To schedule call (913) 588-1400.
School of Medicine has a conference room (3020 Murphy) that is ISDN and IP capable which is managed and scheduled by that office at (913) 588-5287.
Cancer Research Department has an IP only capable conference room (3013 Lied) that is managed and scheduled by Dr. Roy Jensen’s staff (Sherry Kennedy (913) 588-4700). |
Multiple Endpoint Video Teleconferencing

There are two ways to establish multi-point video conferences
Local CODEC Multi-Point Control Units (MCU). Instructional Services (IS) and the Dean’s Conference Room 3020 Murphy both have CODEC MCUs capable of connecting with up to three IP sites or one ISDN and two other IP sites. The Cancer Center Conference Room 3013 Lied (IP only) is capable of connecting with three IP sites. Telemedicine and IT Departments have available capability of this kind also.
Telecom Multi-Point Control Unit (MCU). The campus has an MCU capable of connecting up to 28 IP sites and 8 ISDN sites simultaneously. It is managed and scheduled primarily by Instructional Services and Telemedicine. |
