Obtaining an I-20 or DS2019
In order to obtain an I-20 or DS2019, a student must first apply and be accepted into a program at KUMC.
After a department has decided to admit an applicant, the student's file will be submitted to the Office of International Programs. For students with or seeking F-1 or J-1 status, the department will submit a Request for I-20 or DS2019 for the newly admitted student, either for initial entry into the U.S., or for transfer if the student is already in the U.S. Provided that all required materials are received and are in order, the documents will be processed, and the I-20 or DS2019 will be sent to the department for forwarding to the student.
Please note that the J-1 classification prohibits patient care and is therefore inappropriate for numerous programs at KUMC. Students intending to study in a program with a clinical component must obtain a visa classification other than "J."
