Curricular Practical Training (CPT)

For F-1 students, this type of training is a required or integral part of a program's curriculum. Typically, the student will receive academic credit for this training. When completing CPT, the work venue is not limited to the KUMC campus. Any employer may be chosen, and training may be completed as a part of an internship, co-op program, or practicum. Please note that because students are compensated for this training, it counts toward the 20-hour maximum for F-1 employment.  Additionally, a student must have maintained nine consecutive months of full-time enrollment in order to become eligible, unless the training is a required component of a graduate program. Also, note that 12 months of full-time Curricular Practical Training eliminates one's eligibility for any Optional Practical Training.

All Curricular Practical Training requires prior approval from the Office of International Programs, evidenced by the issuance of a new I-20 with an endorsement for CPT on the second page. To apply for training, follow the form instructions and submit a completed Recommendation for Curricular Practical Training form.
