Basic Requirements for Maintaining J-1 Status

Please refer to the following steps for maintaing your valid J status.

• Maintain a current, valid DS2019 for yourself and each dependent.
• Maintain valid passport.
• Maintain current, valid Form  I-94 in your passport.
• Actively participate in the program for which you have been sponsored.
• Do not enroll in any course work at any institution without prior authorization from the Office of International Programs
• Report any change of address for yourself and your dependents to the USCIS, the Office of International Programs, and the KUMC Payroll office. USCIS regulations require that you have on file your physical, residential address.
• Do not engage in any professional activity outside KUMC without prior authorization from the Office of International Programs.
• Maintain current accident and illness insurance, as well as medical evacuation and repatriation insurance for yourself and all dependents in the U.S..
• Depart the US within 30 days of completing your program.
• If you are withdrawing from your program, depart the U.S. within 30 days of your last date of participation.
• Report to the office of International Programs when completing your program.
