Since this is a popular place for medical electives, I would encourage you to complete your application as soon as possible. Please submit all documents to
our office. We will mail them for you.
1) The application (see attached)
2) Please note the additional documents mentioned on the bottom of the application:
a) Confirmation of registration from your university (we have these)
b) Letter of motivation with the preferred study plan.
c) Letter of recommendation from one of your professors.
d) Copy of your passport.
e) Proof of valid health insurance for Germany (needed upon arrival).
f) Medical Certificate/ Immunization record (issued within 3 month before the start of your internship/study course
and needs to be sent no later than 3 weeks before your arrival) (See attached)
3) Indicate that you intend to do a part of your practical year/ clinical elective not the normal study course.
a) Specify the time/ the number of weeks you would like to spend in each department. (Minimum length in one department is 3 weeks)
b) Indicate if you need to rotate departments within a specific time frame, otherwise students are allowed to rotate
according to the openings offered by departments.
c) If you plan to do Internal Medicine or Surgery specify the field:
a) General, Visceral and Vascular Surgery
b) Children's Surgery
c) Accident Surgery
d) Plastic Surgery, Aesthetic and Hand Surgery
e) Cardiac Surgery and Surgery of the Chest
a) Cardiology, Angiology and Pneumology;
c) Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Infectiology;
d) Renal Medicine and Hypertonia with Field of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases;
e) Hematology and Oncology;
f) Experimental Internal Medicine
There are no Application Fees/tuition for KUMC students
Staff at Magdeburg will help with arrangements if you take a room at the university guest house. The cost is about 260 Euros (approx. $361 USD) per month.
If you fly into Leipzig, Germany as you can get a train to Magdeburg right inside the airport. The current cost for a one-way ticket is 24 Euros ($33 USD). If flying
into Berlin, it costs about 2.60 Euros ($3.61 USD) for a public transport ticket from the airport to the train station. The cost for a one-way train ticket from Berlin
to Magdeburg is currently 31 Euros ($43 USD).
No visa is required if staying less than 90 days.
