Conversation Partners

Program Description

Would you like to have the chance to assist international students, post-doctoral fellows, scholars, and employees? Are you a good listener? Are you interested in learning about other cultures and sharing your experiences? If so, please consider volunteering as a Conversation partner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Desire to help internationals with their English conversational skills
  • Enjoy working with people from different cultures and backgrounds
  • Comfortable talking about your own experiences
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to relate to a variety of personality types
  • Sense of responsibility and reliability
  • Flexibility
  • Sense of humor
  • Have an hour a week to devote to being a Conversation Partner

REWARDS:

Though you will not be paid, the personal rewards of being a Conversation Partner are great. In addition to being invited to participate in Conversation Partners social events, You will also have the opportunity to assist internationals make ne w friends. You will also gain the satisfaction of sharing and improving your leadership skills and cross- cultural experience as you impart your knowl edge of English and daily life experiences.

Once your application is received and reviewed, you will be matched with an international student, postdoctoral fellow, scholar, or employee. After introducti ons are made, you will begin meeting on a weekly basis for an hour of English c onversation. A list of discussion topics and exercises are listed on the website should you need ice breaker suggestions.
