GSMC 800 Scientific Communication 2 credits

Course is offered summer, fall, and spring semesters.
This course if limited to non-native English speakers who need to achieve an adequate score on the SPEAK test. Emphasis will be placed on speaking but also includes pronunciation, intonation, grammar, sentence organization, and word choice.

  • Class meets once a week for 2 hours
  • ESL computer lab or Internet exercises outside of class (1 hour)
  • One-on-one review with instructor as needed
  • Class limit: 10

Prerequisite: Consent of Instructor

GSMC 808 Scientific Communication 0 credits

Course is offered fall and spring semesters
This course if limited to non-native English speakers who need to improve their written skills in English for the purpose of scientific communication. Emphasis is placed on academic writing, grammar, and vocabulary, but will also include pronunciation and reading skills.

  • Class meets once a week for 2 hours
  • Weekly essay assignments
  • One-on-one review with instructor as needed
  • Class limit: 10

Prerequisite: Consent of Instructor

GSMC 835 Grammar for Scientific Communication

Course is offered fall and spring semesters

This course if limited to non-native English speakers who need to improve their use of English. Emphasis will be on grammar, speaking, pronunciation, but will also include reading, listening, and writing.

  • Class meets once a week for 2 hours
  • Weekly grammar exercises outside of class
  • Weekly quiz
  • One-on-one review with instructor as needed
  • Class limit: 15

Prerequisite: Consent of Instructor

Additional classes, individual tutoring, etc. are developed / provided as needed.
