Pediatrics:

Fully integrated into the Pediatric Residency Program, residents in the Combined Program receive the full benefit of the KU Department of Pediatrics. The department manages over 35,000 outpatient visits and approximately 2,100 inpatient admissions per year.

Residents rotate through the various outpatient services in the pleasant environment of the Miller Building adjacent to KU Hospital, the various satellite clinics in the metro area, and several subspecialty outreach clinics located throughout Kansas and in Missouri.

The pediatric Department is also pleased to offer exposure to our nationally-recognized Tele-KidCare™ program.   This program links physicians at KU Pediatrics with area schools through a high-tech secure computer link, allowing our staff and residents to participate in the health care of children who might otherwise not receive timely care.

Residents also gain experience through several inpatient services, the Full Term Nursery, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in KU Hospital.

Residents receive subspecialty training in Allergy/Immunology, Adolescent Medicine, Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, Cardiology, Critical Care, Cystic Fibrosis, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Disease, Neonatology, Nephrology, Neurology, Pulmonology, and Rheumatology. Additional opportunities are available through Pediatric Radiology, Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery, Urology, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery and Plastic Surgery.

The Pediatrics Ambulatory Program provides exposure to health care maintenance problems, including well-child and well-adolescent visits, common pediatric problems, anticipatory guidance and education, urgent care clinics, and a wide variety of subspecialty outpatient clinics. Through our strong ties with private pediatric practices in the community, residents may experience close preceptorial training with knowledgeable pediatricians.
