Internal Medicine Facilities:
The
University of Kansas Medical Center
has a longstanding tradition of training residents for nearly a century.
A total of about 100 physicians are currently training in the Department
of Medicine. KU Hospital has four major medical services
that are separately supervised by the Gastroenterology, General Medicine/Infectious
Diseases, and Hematology Divisions. In addition to many primary care
patients, others may have a specialty-directed problem as their major
health concern.
There are also pure subspecialty, including Oncology, Nephrology, Cardiac
Intensive Care, and Medicine Intensive Care services.
Our
residents also rotate through the Kansas
City Veterans Affairs Medical Center (KCVAMC), where they gain
invaluable experience on three inpatient General Medicine services
and one subspecialty
inpatient service - Oncology. Cardiac Intensive Care and Medicine Intensive
Care services round out your KCVAMC experience.
Consultation services are available at both institutions in most medicine
subspecialties. Rotations are one month in length.
A
third hospital setting, Providence
Medical Center, provides additional exposure to adult patients.
These various locations provide an extensive variety of clinical problems,
patient demographics, and therapeutic options for a well-rounded educational
experience.
