"Fast Facts" about the Combined
Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Program:
History of the Program:
- First residents in 1987.
- To date, we have graduated 44 residents, including year 2004 graduates.
- 78% are K U graduates.
Curriculum:
Two years of Medicine and two years of Pediatrics, divided as follows:
- First year - Six months Medicine and six months Pediatrics.
- Second year - Four months Pediatrics and eight months Medicine, OR
four months Medicine and eight months Pediatrics.
- Third year - Four months Medicine and eight months Pediatrics, OR
four months Pediatrics and eight months Medicine.
- Fourth year - Twelve months equally divided between the two departments.
Board Pass Rate:
Percentage of graduates who pass their board exam on
the first attempt (n=28):
- 89% Internal Medicine Boards
- 71% Pediatrics
Graduate Practice Type and Location:
Location statistics (n=36):
- 67% practice in Primary Care;
- 11% practice in Emergency Departments;
- 16% continue into fellowships (14% at KU);
- 7% other (e.g., hospitalist)
