Med/Peds Residency Benefits:

The University of Kansas Combined Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Program
offers an attractive combination of benefits:

FEES - Annual K U Medical Center student activity and library
assessment fees are paid by the departments.

HEALTH INSURANCE - Single and family coverage, including 50-100%
dental coverage, depending on plan, is provided.

LAB COATS - Three white lab coats are provided.
-
SCRUBS - Three sets of scrubs are provided.
-
LIFE AND DISABILITY INSURANCE - Group Life and Long Term Disability
Insurance are provided by the state of Kansas.
- SUPPLEMENTAL LONG-TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE - available at minimal
cost for residents.

LOCUM TENENS - One week per year (after the intern year) is allowed
for locum tenens, contingent upon approval by the Program Director.
MATERNITY AND PATERNITY LEAVE - Both departments allow maternity
and paternity leave.

MEALS - Meal tickets are provided when on call.

MEMBERSHIP DUES - Candidate membership dues in the American Academy
of Pediatrics are paid for by the Department of Pediatrics. Dues for
the American College of Physicians may be paid by the provided book
allowance.

MOONLIGHTING - The Department of Medicine currently allows upper
level residents to supplement their incomes by staffing approved
emergency
rooms. These activities are regulated by ACGME guidelines. Residents
moonlighting outside KUMC or the VA must obtain separate malpractice
insurance and prior approval from the program director.

PARKING - University permits are provided free of charge.

PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY INSURANCE - The state of Kansas covers this
insurance, which applies only to education activities approved by
the Dean of the School of Medicine.

PROFESSIONAL MEETINGS AND BOOK ALLOWANCE - The following are provided:

Year One - Book allowance

Years Two, Three, and Four - Authorized travel for scientific meetings
and a book allowance are provided annually.

VACATION - All residents receive three weeks of vacation annually.
- SICK LEAVE - All residents receive two weeks of sick leave annually.
