Research Basics

Research is the process of systematically gathering data about a problem under controlled conditions Some research designs (descriptive) have no controls but may use statistics to "control" characteristics of the samples that are compared. Experimental design controls as many variables as possible.  Read about Basic Research Designs.

Clinical application of research findings from one population to another must be carefully tested. The Smith, et al, 1998 Preceptor Program initial research was conducted with chronically ill patients and then modified and research was done with patients with cancer.
