Pager FAQ

A new employee starting to work in my department needs a pager. What do I need to do?

Your KUMC Online Directory Administrator must enter the new employee into the KUMC Online Telephone Directory. The Pager Request Form must be completed and signed by the departmental manager or supervisor. Most of this form can be completed on-line, and then printed so the manager can sign it. Bring the completed and signed form to the Pager Warehouse located at Dykes Library. The Pager Warehouse, ext. 8-2337, is open from 8am - 5pm, Monday through Friday.

What is my access code?

All pagers are initially distributed with a default access code of 1998. For security reasons, everyone is asked to change their default access code immediately after receiving a new pager. An access code can be any four to nine digit number of your choice. However, the access code should not begin with zero. Instructions for changing the access code can be found on the yellow "Quick Reference Card" handed out with each pager. Or, you may view on-line instructions.

Is there a reason why the switchboard will not page me?

To be paged, your pertinent information must be entered in the KUMC Online Telephone Directory. Chances are the KUMC Online Telephone Directory Administrator for your department has not entered your information into the KUMC Online Telephone Directory database. Contact your department manager or supervisor immediately.

I currently have local coverage and I need to expand my coverage. What do I need to do?

First, determine what coverage option you need. Written managerial approval is required before any changes can be made. What features does my new pager have?

All pagers came with the Basic Voicemail Value Added Service. Basic Voice Mail was created specifically for KUMC, KU Hospital, and KUPI. Listed below are the features included in this Value Added Service.

Personal Custom Greeting allows you to record a 30-second personal greeting to your callers. Instead of hearing a beep, callers will hear your voice. The greeting confirms that the caller has reached the correct pager. Messages can be updated as often as you choose.
Voice Mail service works alone, or with your pager. When you use Voice Mail with your pager, callers can leave you a 30-second detailed message in their own voice, and your pager automatically notifies you of the call. You can eliminate unnecessary callbacks because callers can leave detailed messages, confirm appointments, or ask you to get back to them with specified information. Voice Mail gives the user a 30-second custom greeting, and holds five 30-second messages. The messages are stored in memory for four hours.
PageSaver ensures that you do not miss pages if you leave your pager at home, leave the coverage area, if your battery runs down, or you have turned your pager off. With PageSaver, you call your pager number, and retrieve your messages. PageSaver retains the last 15 numeric pages in memory. The system even tells you the time and date the page was sent.
Page Forward
allows you to manually forward your pages to another pager.
Pager Absence
enables you to not accept calls. The caller hears a verbal message that you are not accepting calls, but allows them to leave a numeric or voice message.

Will Pager Warehouse forward my pager for me?
