Variable buttons that can be programmed based on the user's need. For example, you could have the buttons indicate when another party is on the phone or they can be lines that you use to place or receive calls. The feature chosen is an either/or situation, you cannot have both features on the same button. There is no fee for the initial set-up of this service.



A light indicating a message has been placed in the audix account. This account is a custom feature that acts as an automated answering point so the caller can choose options to be redirected to the appropriate party, leave message for the party they are calling or give the caller information about specific topics of interest much like a bulletin board. This service must be requested through the Telecommunications Department and there is a one-time installation fee and a recurring monthly fee. If the feature has been activated, you may access the voice mail system by dialng 2222 and following the voice prompts. If you are calling from outside the Medical Center, the number is 588-2222. You may find instructions for using this feature here.



You can initiate a conference call with yourself and two other parties, either inside or outside the Medical Center. . There may be fees, such as long-distance charges, for the use of this service. To make a conference call:

  1. Call the first party.
  2. Instruct them you will be adding another party to the call.
  3. Press the CONFERENCE button. You will have placed your party on hold and have dial tone.
  4. Dial the number of the second party you wish to add to the call.
  5. Once they answer instruct them that you have another party on the line and then press the CONFERENCE button again.
  6. To end the call, hang up.



You can drop the last party added to a conference call if you established the call. It can also be used to disconnect a two-party conversation.



When the phone is off-hook, the volume control button directs the loudness of your speaker. When the phone is on-hook, the volume control button directs the loudness of your telephone's ring tone. When the phone is either on or off-hook, simply adjust the sliding bar to raise or lower the volume to the setting desired.



You can transfer a call to another extension by using the TRANSFER button.:

  1. While you have the party on the line, press TRANSFER.
  2. Dial the extension number you wish to transfer the call to.
  3. When the called party answer or after the line has rung at least one time, press the TRANSFER button again.
  4. Hang up.



You can put an active call on hold. While the call is on hold, you can answer another call or make a call. To place a call on hold, press the HOLD button. To return to the call on hold, press the flashing line appearance button the call is on.



The SPEAKER button the 7406DD is located in the lower right-hand corner of the telephone. It allows the user to listen only to a conversation without lifting the handset.

To turn the SPEAKER on, press the SPEAKER button.

To turn the SPEAKER off, press the SPEAKER button.

To place a call using the SPEAKER, press SPEAKER button and dial the number you wish to call or press the appropriate SPEED DIAL button. When other party answers you may pick up the handset.


Normal Mode
The Normal Mode automatically provides call information about calls before and after they are answered and when making outgoing calls from the Medical Center.
Receiving Calls
The Normal Mode identifies an incoming caller before the call is answered and while the call is connected. If the incoming call is coming from another extension within the Medical Center, the extension number, building number, room number and name will appear on the display. For example:

If the incoming call is from outside the Medical Center, the display will show OUTSIDE or OUTSIDE CALL, and, if the caller does not have Caller ID blocked, the caller's telephone number will be displayed.

If the incoming call to your 7406DD is the result of a redirected call from another extension, the display shows the reason for the redirected call. Some possible examples are:

Making Calls
For calls within the Medical Center, pick up the handset and dial the 4-digit extension number you wish to call. If the called party does not answer and their extension number rolls to another person, you will hear a tone and COVER will shows below the dialed extension number. For example:

If the called party had forwarded their incoming calls to another extension number, FORWARD shows below the dialed extension number. For example:

Making Outside Calls
To place a local call, dial 9 and the number. The display will be similar to the following:

To place a long distance call, dial 9, 1, the area code, and the number. The display will be similar to the following:

The SELECT button in conjunction with another button lets you program SPEED DIAL buttons, set a personalized ring or reset the speaker button.


11. SPEED DIAL . There is no fee for this service.

Labeling speed-dial numbers:

  1. Remove the station number card retainer by using either a ball point pen or paper clip.
  2. Press left on the latch and life the top frame of telephone to remove.
  3. Remove the preprinted plastic faceplate and then the paper faceplate underneath.
  4. Label buttons using a pencil for future changes and write in the appropriate names or phone numbers you wish to appear on each button.
  5. Replace the paper faceplate, then replace the plastic preprinted faceplate.
  6. Replace top frame by placing it on the telephone and pressing down until it snaps in place.
  7. Replace station number card in the holder and replace plastic strip.



You can change the brightness of the text seen on your two-line display by adjusting the wheel to the desired setting.




Your telephone can be programmed by Telecommunications with many useful features. With the exception of placing a long distance call, there are no fees for the features listed. For example:

Send All Calls Redirects all your calls to the pre-designated coverage path of your extension. With this feature activated, the telephone will not ring.

Call Forwarding Forwards all of your incoming calls to another extension of your choice. While the feature is activated, your telephone will ring a half ring with an incoming call but you will not be able to answer.

Long Distance Allows you to place calls outside the local calling area and internationally.
Call Pickup With your telephone, you can answer calls placed to another telephone within your pre-designated group.

Auto Call Back Automatically calls you back when a busy extension you called becomes free.

Call Coverage Allows your calls to be routed to another extension if your telephone is busy or is not answered within a specified number of rings. Training is provided when the feature is requested.
Busy Hunt Allows your calls to redirected to another predetermined extension when your line is busy only. Training is provided when the feature is requested.
Paging You must know the pager number you wish to call before trying to page the party. To page another party or to retrieve your pages, dial *5 and follow the voice prompts.



The PBX or Telephone Switch provides various tones to the telephone user to give information. For example, dial tone indicates you can begin dialing. Incoming call tones are heard on your ringer. Outgoing call tones are heard over the handset. Some other examples are listed below.

Incoming Call Tones (Ringing)

One ring, pause (repeat) Internal Call
Two rings, pause (repeat) Outside Call: can only be distinguished if no personalized ring is programmed.
Three rings, pause (repeat) Intercom Call

Outgoing Call Tones (Handset)

Three bursts of tone Confirmation Tone: the feature you activated or canceled has been accepted
An alternating high/low tone Intercept or Turkey Tone: dialing error or denial of the service you requested occurred.
One burst of tone Coverage Tone: your call to an extension will be answered by another party because the person called was not available.
Tone with lower-pitched signal at the other end The called extension is busy and the call waiting signal is being given.



You may select any one of (8) personalized rings. Select a ring pattern that you will easily recognize and that is different from any of the other telephones within your location. To hear and select the personalized ring proceed as follows:

  • Press the SELECT button. The light will come on.
  • Press the CONFERENCE button. You will hear the current ring.
  • Repeat step 2 to cycle through all the ring patterns.
  • When you hear the desired ring, press the SELECT button to set the ring. The SELECT light goes out and the personalized ring is set.
  • NOTE: If the telephone is unplugged, the personalized ring resets to the default ring. You must then reprogram the personalized ring using the instructions above.
