KBA's Cancer Fighting Cures initiative is an example of a statewide effort to improve the quality of cancer-related research and care. The initiative seeks to leverage the state's excellence in pharmaceutical research to spur the commercialization of cancer drugs and boost Kansans' access to the most advanced therapies.

The collaborative was formed in June 2010 in an effort to bridge what is called the "valley of death" for drugs under development.
