KUMC has inaugurated an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) program with the installation of seventy (70) AED units at various locations throughout campus and in KUMC Police vehicles. This program is part of the overall effort to make KUMC a safer place to learn and work. The intent is to provide a readily available tool to trained Volunteer Rescuers in a medical situation involving sudden cardiac arrest and thus strengthen the chain of survival.
To date we have trained certified 170 KUMC faculty, staff, and students in CPR and proper AED usage. They are all now certified Volunteer Rescuers, prepared to properly use the devices should a staff member, student or visitor have a heart attack while on campus. We will conduct periodic training sessions throughout the year. If you are interested in participating, a full description of the program is available on AED's Website. This Web site also allows you to sign up for the AED program, either as a volunteer who is currently CPR/AED certified, or as a non-certified volunteer interested in future training opportunities.
