Eligible employees are entitled up to 12 weeks of leave for illness, a new child, or to care for a sick family member.
Employees that have exhausted all paid time off may be eligible for shared leave if they or a family member suffer from a severe illness, injury, impairment or physical or mental condition.
Death of a close relative: Up to six days of leave may be paid, with supervisor approval. The employee's relationship to the relative and travel time will determine the duration of the leave. A relative is defined as a person related to the employee by blood, marriage or adoption or minors living with the employee because of certain court proceedings.
KU Medical Center believes that jury duty is an important civic privilege and responsibility. Employees summoned for jury duty will be paid at full salary and may be asked to provide documentation before and during their service.
The Kansas Donor Leave Program provides paid leave for benefits-eligible faculty and staff who donate organs, tissue, bone marrow, blood, or blood products, as follows:
The employee does not have to exhaust any accrued vacation leave, sick leave, or compensatory time before being eligible to receive donor leave. Donor leave will not be counted against a faculty or staff member's FMLA entitlement, nor does it count as time worked for FLSA purposes for non-exempt staff. Leave must be approved in advance from a supervisor.
