Welcome to the Department of Health Policy and Management

The Department of Health Policy and Management prepares health services administrators, leaders and researchers who will advance systems of care delivery, promote effective health policy, and foster innovation and scholarly inquiry to improve and serve the health needs of Kansas citizens and beyond.
Explore our Master of Health Services Administration and PhD in Health Policy and Management programs as options for advancing your career in health services administration. Our MHSA program is one of only 3 programs in Kansas and Missouri accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (http://www.cahme.org), and the only one in the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area and State of Kansas.  HP&M has an interdisciplinary faculty representing a variety of academic disciplines, as well as a variety of teaching and research focuses.

The MHSA program prepares individuals to work in a wide variety of professional settings, employing their leadership skills and knowledge of health policy and management to improve health and health services delivery in the communities where they serve. Our PhD in Health Policy and Management prepares high-level health services researchers for careers in academic settings or in public and private organizations where advanced research and analytic skills are required.  Our graduates work in a variety of organizations, including hospitals, health care systems, long-term care organizations, physician group practices, higher education, governmental entities, insurance and managed care firms.

What is Health Services Administration?

Health Services Administration is an academic discipline that offers a systematic overview of the healthcare system, a clear perspective on contemporary health policy, a mastery of management methods and a broad exposure to the practice of healthcare management. Programs in health services administration prepare healthcare managers for positions in a variety of locations.
