Health Policy and Management

Master of Health Services Administration

Curriculum

The curriculum consists of 52 to 54 credit hours – 48 credit hours of required courses, three credit hours of electives, and an intership of varying credit length (one to three credit hours), depending on the individual student's prior healthcare management experience.

This course of study requires two years for full-time students and at least three years of study for part-time students. The curriculum includes course work in health systems, finance, policy, information systems, epidemiology, outcomes management, reimbursement and other areas related to the delivery, financing and organization of healthcare and services. To strengthen students’ understanding of practice, most courses combine theory and experiential learning, with projects in healthcare organizations being common.

An internship is required of all students. To complete the internship, students must work in conjunction with a mentor in a healthcare setting for about 10 weeks (on a fulltime basis). Most students complete the internship between their first and second years of study.
