For human, genomic, clinical, and medical genetics educators

About:

The new genetics education listserv, geneticsed, was created in September 2002 through the Genetics Education Center at the University of Kansas Medical Center, as a way for educators to exchange human / medical genetics lesson plans, activities, other educational materials.

Background:

Initially, names of teachers were added to the listserv if their e-mail address was known, and they had participated in one of the genetics / genome teacher education workshops sponsored by NSF or DOE at the University of Kansas Medical Center over the past 15 years. Other educators have been added who teach genetics, biology, or other science.

Purpose:

The listserv was developed to network educators who are teaching about human genetics, the human genome, or medical and clinical genetics.
Periodic postings will include new education resources, curricula, lesson plans, web sites, and other information which may be helpful in teaching (such as TV episodes dealing with genetics).
Resources will also be added to the Genetics Education Center website, www.kumc.edu/gec
With the 50th anniversary of Watson and Crick's discovery in Spring 2003, there plans for historical perspectives by several national genetics professional organizations. This listserv is one way to help keep educators apprised of these.

Using the genetics education listserv:

Currently, the listserv will send all messages to the whole group from one central source, to minimize the volume of e-mail you'll receive. Resources can be recommended through replying to the e-mail message.
