Speakers

Debra Collins, M.S., CGC, Associate Clinical Professor, University of Kansas Medical Center. Experience in genetic education and web site development. Has developed several web-based and distance education genetic projects for graduate genetic counseling students and medical students.

Cynthia Dolan, M.S., CGC is an Associate Editor of Genetic Counseling for GeneReviews and Manager of the Directories at GeneTests.org. Has developed several web-based education modules primarily for primary care physicians.

Betsy Gettig, M.Sc., CGC is an Associate Professor and Co-Director of the Genetic Counseling Program, University of Pittsburgh . She has developed genetics education modules and is interested in all new technology and advanced communication tools for clinical and educational uses.

Gary Doolittle, MD, Associate Professor of Clinical Oncology, University of Kansas Medical Center, Director of TeleMedicine & TeleHealth program, teaching with medical students & residents.

David Antonacci, MS, Education Technologist, Teaching & Learning Depart, University of Kansas Medical Center. Assists health professional faculty develop strategies & materials for delivering education content.

Jill Ducey, MS, Web Developer, Marketing - Creative, Perceptive Software. Develops data driven and static web sites. Has developed educational materials and developed communication groups.

Nellie Modaress, MS, Education Technologist, Teaching & Learning Depart, University of Kansas Medical Center. Develops educational materials and communication groups.

This site is for participants at the NSGC Workshop, Emerging Technologies, Friday, October 12, 2007, in conjunction with the NSGC meeting. The workshop involved hands-on, interactive practice with new & cool clinical and educational technology applications for genetic counselors such as:

Patients, students, and instructors are increasingly presented with new technical advances and methods to obtain and deliver information.

Experienced genetic counselors will present some of their favorite new technologies for participants to use in clinical, education, and communication settings.

Clinicians and educators will present their perspectives and experiences. Participants will gain insight into the possibilities and limitations of technology to enhance the delivery of information for their practice and keep pace with their technically savvy patients and students.

The workshop is targets the novice or curious counselor with some technical expertise. Participants should bring a wireless computer to use during the workshop with battery charged for at least 2 hours of use.
