2019 Green Commute Challenge starts June 3!
In 2018 KUMC WON the MARC Green Commute Challenge! Help us win again and beat our score from last year!
The 2019 Green Commute Challenge runs from June 3 through Aug. 30, 2019. During the Challenge, you and your teammates record commute trips by carpool, vanpool, bus, streetcar, biking, walking and e-scooting, as well as days you telecommute. Each trip you log earns points for your team and enters you in drawings for fun prizes.
Join the 2019 team - "KU Medical Center" on the Challenge Dashboard. Sign Ups are open until the challenge starts on June 3. For more information visit RideShareKC.org or email the team lead Emily Knipp at firstname.lastname@example.org.

KUMC and KC Royals Green Teams
Take me out to the ball game... to recycle!
Volunteer with KUMC to be a part of our "green team" at a Kansas City Royals game.
Volunteers will help fans learn about sustainability, collect recyclable items, and represent KUMC in our community.
2019 Volunteer dates:
April 26 vs. Los Angeles Angels
May 24 vs. New York Yankees
August 16 vs. New York Mets
What should I wear? Volunteers will be provided a "We Are KU" t-shirt and will receive a green team apron upon arrival. Unless requested for medical need, seating will not be provided during your shift so we recommend comfortable walking shoes. Storage is not provided, so travel light.
How do we get there, and do we have to pay for parking? Transportation to Kauffman Stadium is not provided, but is up to each volunteer since you can leave any time after the third inning. If you are interested in carpooling, please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org to coordinate with other volunteers. Free parking passes and tickets will be sent to volunteers before the event.
When will we be collecting recycling? Volunteers will work from 5:30 pm through the beginning of the 3rd inning of play. Please arrive to the ballpark no later than 5:30 pm. When travelling we recommend anticipating extra time for traffic and parking. After the 3rd inning volunteers can remain in the ballpark and watch the game for free with an upper deck or standing room only ticket.
Will I be digging through the trash? No! We don't ask volunteers to clean up after people. You will be provided gloves and a trash bag and you are given access to the concourses and parking lots to walk around and collect recycling from fans (i.e. bottles, cans, paper).
Should I eat before I go? Volunteers are not allowed to eat during their shift and food is not provided, however all Friday games are "Buck Night" - hot dogs and peanuts are $1 each at Royals concession stands. Water fountains are located throughout the concourses.
Can my family and friends join me? Green teams are open to all KUMC employees, students, and their families. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 to work independently by Royals policy. Volunteers under 18 are welcome to come, they must stay with an adult at all times and cannot handle the recycling materials.
Should I sign up? YES! Green teams are a great way to hang out with other KUMC employees and students, help the earth, and have a fun, free Friday evening in Kansas City!
