2014 Green Star Award

The Landscape & Campus Beautification Department team has worked tirelessly for more than two years to refresh our campus. The campus has been transformed into a visually appealing space with an array of colorful flowers and greenery for the benefit of our employees, students, patients and visitors. And we're not the only ones to notice and appreciate this transformation.

KU Medical Center has won the 2014 Green Star Award through the annual Professional Grounds Management Awards Program. This program, sponsored by the Professional Grounds Management Society, brings national recognition to excellent landscaping.

KU Medical Center received 79 out of a possible 100 points in five categories: turf, landscape, challenges, budget, and sustainable practices. Judges' comments included:

  • The turf is healthy and looks well maintained. Nice striping.
  • Beds are neat and clean with good use of color. Bed edges look clean and crisp.
  • Diverse, interesting plan selections, especially in challenging areas like the deep shaded areas in the parking structures.

KU Medical Center will accept the award at the Awards Banquet and Reception in Louisville, Ky., in October. Specail thanks to Selena Jabara, Photo Services photographer, who took the photos submitted for the Green Star Award nomination.
