Along with spring's arrival, there are several events to celebrate here at the Medical Center. This month started with the announcement of a $2 million gift from the Morris Family Foundation to endow the Mark and Bette Morris Family Chair in Cancer Prevention. This gift completed the final portion of a $15 million pledge by the Kansas Masonic Foundation in 2003. We then had investitures for two more cancer endowed chairs. The first was the John P. Wolf Thirty-Third Degree Masonic Professorship in Urology which went to Tomas Griebling, MD, and then earlier this week, Thomas Schulz, MD, from Wichita, was invested as the Frank and Beverly Gaines Chair in Clinical Cancer Research. (See picture above.) This is also the time of year we thank our Dean’s Club members, individuals who have donated $1,000 or more to either Karen Miller or I, on behalf of one of our schools. Karen and I sincerely appreciate what these additional funds do to help us build a first-class academic health center. Thank you for all you do, and I hope you are enjoying Checking In. |
